In April 2001, Oldcastle Materials purchased LS Jensen & Sons and Jensen Paving in Missoula, Montana from Bob and George Jensen. LS Jensen worked locally since 1935 and was heavily involved in the highway overlay market in western Montana. They also sold sand and gravel and asphalt. In early 2003 LS Jensen entered into the ready mix market. Today LS Jensen is one of Missoula's most recognized utility, paving and road building contractors; they deliver material and sell sand and gravel, asphalt and ready mix.
In 2002, Oldcastle Materials purchased Helena Sand and Gravel and Maronick Construction in Helena, Montana from Ed and Rick Maronick. At the time, Helena Sand and Gravel performed local construction and highway contracts and sold sand and gravel, asphalt and ready mix concrete. Today, Helena Sand and Gravel contracts underground utility work, gravel and paving, and general road construction projects. Our material sales business consisting of; ready mix concrete, asphalt, sand and gravel and now the newest addition, a landscape materials yard contribute to a significant portion of the business. Helena Sand and Gravel is a major employer in Helena and contributes to the local community and economy.
In 2003, Oldcastle Materials purchased Blahnik Construction in Hamilton, Montana from John and Candie Blahnik. Blahnik Construction provided local and highway construction services with a large emphasis on small highway paving contracts. Today, Blahnik Construction is focused on the local market in Hamilton and the surrounding Bitteroot communities with an emphasis on paving and small commercial work. In the summer of 2006, Blahnik Construction entered the ready mix concrete business adding to their growing material sales business of sand and gravel and asphalt.
In 2003, Oldcastle Materials purchased Nupac in Kalispell, Montana from the Lynch Family. Nupac was a local utility and paving contractor that supplied sand and gravel, asphalt and ready mix to the Kalispell market. Today, Nupac continues to sell sand and gravel, asphalt and ready mix and has recently joined forces with our newest acquisition in Montana-Goose Bay Equipment.
In June of 2006, Oldcastle Materials purchased Goose Bay Equipment, Inc. in Kalispell, Montana from Dennis Carver. Goose Bay provided local utility and dirt construction services with their primary focus being small commercial and residential subdivisions. With Nupac and Goose Bay recently joining forces and now operating as one under the trade name Goose Bay, Goose Bay has become a major competitor in the Kalispell construction and materials supply market. This new business is in its infancy, and we are confident that Goose Bay will be a successful business in the Kalispell market.
